The book Gods and Maharajas, authored by Advocate-on-Record Jayant Mohan, was released by Supreme Court Justice Vikram Nath at the India International Centre, New Delhi, on October 7, 2026. The event was attended by Senior Advocate Rana Mukherji and Devvrat, President of the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA).

Organised by Flipping Pages, a book club of Supreme Court lawyers, the event featured a book launch and discussion on legal issues concerning personal and religious rights in pre-Independence India.

The book compiles 12 articles examining disputes concerning personal and religious rights that arose more than a century ago and the judicial decisions that continue to be relevant in contemporary legal discourse.

The discussion featured Senior Advocates Jaideep Gupta and Rana Mukherji, SCAORA President Devvrat, Advocate-on-Record Anu Srivastava, and the author, Jayant Mohan.

The panellists discussed the litigation concerning the management of the Nathdwara and Kamakhya temples and the sacred hill of Parasnath, associated with the Jain community. They examined how courts adjudicated these disputes and discussed the scope of Article 25 of the Constitution of India and its implications for the rights to worship and religious faith.

Senior Advocate Jaideep Gupta shared his experiences of appearing before the Supreme Court in matters concerning the management of the Kamakhya Temple and the entry of women of a particular age group into the Sabarimala Temple.

Senior Advocate Rana Mukherji spoke about the idea behind the book club and emphasised the importance of encouraging lawyers to read and write books and articles, particularly in the present technology-driven environment, which leaves limited scope for such reading activities.

Devvrat, President of SCAORA, extended his support and encouragement to young advocates and Advocates-on-Record organising book discussions and review events. He highlighted the importance of such initiatives in developing a deeper knowledge base and understanding among legal professionals.

The event concluded with a book-signing session by the author and an interactive discussion among participants on the legal issues highlighted in the book.
