Kerala Court Issues Contempt Notice To MLA Najeeb Kanthapuram For Allegedly Obstructing Advocate Commissioner

A Kerala court on Tuesday (September 29) issued notice to Perinthalmanna MLA Najeeb Kanthapuram under Contempt of Courts Act for obstructing the proceedings of a court-appointed advocate commissioner, who had arrived to take possession of a house.
Smt. Saritha Raveendran, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Manjeri issued the show cause notice to the MLA and posted the case to be called on October 9:
“Issue show cause notice to the alleged contemnor Sri.Najeeb Kanthapuram MLA, Perinthalmanna Constituency within 7 working days.”
The notice has been issued under Section 2(c)(iii) read with Section 15 of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971.
Section 2(c)(iii) states that the doing of any act that interferes or tends to interfere with, or obstructs or tends to obstruct, the administration of justice in any other manner would amount to criminal contempt.
Section 15 deals with cognizance of criminal contempt.
