The Kerala High Court on Friday stayed the criminal proceedings initiated against actor Sreenath Bhasi over using filthy language against a female interviewer during an interview conducted by 'Bihind Woods' social media channel.

The stay has been granted on actor's plea filed through Advocates Martin Jose, P. Prijith, Thomas P. Kuruvilla, R. Githesh, Ajay Ben Jose, Manjunath Menon, Sachin Jacob Ambat, Anna Linda V. J., and Harikrishnan S, claiming that the matter has been settled between the parties.

It was further submitted that the respondent-interviewer had sworn on Affidavit that she had no further case against the petitioner, and that she did not want to pursue the complaint further.

It is in this light that the instant stay order has been issued.

    The case:

The said incident occurred on September 21st in an interview conducted by 'Bihind Woods' social media channel, during a promotional interview for the actor's latest film, at Crown Plaza. It is alleged that the actor had used foul language against the interviewer and the camera crew, after requesting the camera to be turned off. The actor had been arrested under sections 354 A (1) (IV), 509 and 294 B of the Indian Penal Code. He was later released on bail.

It is under these circumstances that the complainant sought to withdraw the case, and the actor approached the High Court requesting the proceedings to be quashed.
