Marathi actor Ketaki Chitale arrested for sharing an advocate's derogatory post aimed against NCP Chief Sharad Pawar has been granted bail by Thane court after Maharashtra police didn't oppose relief.

Chitale was arrested on May 14, after she shared the post allegedly written by one advocate Nitin Bhave that refers to an "80-year-old man Pawar", and calls him a "mosquito" who "hates Brahmins."

Since then, 22 FIRs have been registered against her for offences under the Indian Penal Code.

Judge HM Patwardhan granted Chitale bail after the Mumbai police did not object to her release in their additional reply filed yesterday.

During yesterday's hearing the court pulled up the Mumbai police for the flagrantly violating guidelines prescribed by the Supreme Court in Arnesh Kumar's case.

Chitale's lawyer Ghanshyam Upadhyay informed the court that she was served with a copy of the 41A notice under the CrPC only moments before her arrest.

The judge took strong exception to this. It may be noted that Chitale's petition for quashing of the FIRs against her and another petition seeking to declare her arrest as "illegal" are pending before the HC.
