In a circular issued on 11th January, the Madras High Court has directed all judicial officers to refrain themselves from receiving any kind of gift hampers/ cracker boxes/ or sweet boxes from third parties during the festivals.  The court added that the officers must maintain strict discipline and decorum while serving the District Judiciary.

"All the Judicial Officers functioning in the State of Tamil Nadu and Union Territory of Puducherry are hereby instructed to refrain themselves from receiving gift hampers/ cracker boxes/ sweet boxes and to maintain strict discipline and decorum while serving in the District Judiciary. The above instruction shall be adhered to scrupulously and deviation, if any, will be viewed seriously."

These instructions come after the registry noted that some judicial officers functioning in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry were receiving gift from the third parties. The registry noted that the acts of such officers were bringing disrepute to the entire Judiciary of the State.
