    The Madras High Court has passed an Order seeking for a Status Report from the Government of Tamil Nadu regarding the steps being taken for bringing back people who are stranded in various parts of the country, especially New Delhi. 

    The Petition sought for allowing the movement of people who have been stranded in various parts of the country back to the State of Tamil Nadu, specially espousing the cause of New Delhi as it appears that they belong to a particularly community and had attended the Tablighi Jamaat conference in the city.

    Senior Counsel Ajmal Khan, appearing for the Petitioner, submitted that a representation had already been filed by the Petitioner, along with a list of people who were to travel from Delhi to Chennai and had not only tested negative for Coronavirus and completed their quarantine period, but had also undertaken to bear the transportation cost from Delhi to Chennai.

    Government Pleader V. Jayaprakash Narayanan submitted that the applications of various people who had been stranded in different parts of country were large in number and were being processed by a Nodal Officer and his team.

    Accordingly, the Madras High Court Bench comprising of Justices Dr. Vineet Kothari and Pushpa Sathyanarayana directed the Respondent-State to file a Status Report with regard to the steps taken for transportation of those people and to also inform the Court about the steps taken for processing the Applications filed by the people in the present case.

    The matter is now listed on 12th May.
