The Mumbai Police has registered a First Information Report on Friday against Republic TV's anchors and editorial team for allegedly committing offences amounting to incitement to disaffection among members of the Police Force and defaming Mumbai Police in their news story reporting alleged "revolt brewing against Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh."

FIR was registered at NM Joshi Marg police station under Section 3(1) of the Police (Incitement to Disaffection) Act, 1922 read with Section 500, 34 of Indian Penal Code on a complaint filed by PSI Shashikant Pawar, Special Branch 1.

Sagarika Mitra Deputy News Editor, Shivani Gupta Anchor/Sr Associate Editor, Shawan Sen Deputy Editor, Niranjan Narayanswamy Executive Editor, Editorial staff and Newsroom Incharge for a particular report getting aired and others.

According to the complainant, he was watching Republic TV on October 22 and saw anchor Shivani Gupta alleging that they had an exclusive story on rebellion against Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh within the police establishment.

The complaint contends that following was stated during the said news telecast-

"Republic has exclusive information that the rebellion against the Mumbai top cop, within Mumbai police is now growing"

"So now our rebellion is also brewing within the Mumbai police itself, this is ofcourse a matter of their own institutional credibility."

"Shavan Sen is in fact following the case very closely and he has confirmed to us…"

"Param Bir Singh is hell bent on tarnishing the image single handedly tarnishing the image of the Mumbai police"

"There is now a rebellion of swords brewing from his subordinates."

The complainant also alleged that the said anchor went on to state that Parambir Singh was using the power of his position to "settle personal scores" and many of his colleagues in the police force "are unhappy with him."

    FIR states-

"By broadcasting such content, the channel and its journalists intentionally tried to incite disaffection among the police personnel against the police commissioner and the act also maligns Mumbai Police's image,"
