    The National Green Tribunal (NGT), Eastern Zonal Bench, Kolkata has inaugurated its first dedicated Child Play Area, in what it described as a first-of-its-kind initiative across NGT benches. The facility was inaugurated on 15 January 2026, and is aimed at providing a child-friendly space within the Tribunal premises.

    The inauguration was carried out by Justice Prakash Shrivastava, Chairperson, NGT in the presence of Expert Member Ishwar Singh, Registrar Deepto Ghosh, Deputy Registrar Tanusree Dutta, and Assistant Registrar Yash Kumar Singh.

    The initiative reflects NGT's commitment towards inclusive, gender-sensitive and humane institutional practices. It was also stated that the facility aligns with the Palna Scheme of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, and is in compliance with the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 (as amended), as well as directions issued by the Supreme Court on childcare facilities for working women.

    The play area has been designed for children between 3 and 10 years of age, and is intended to provide a safe and hygienic environment equipped with learning and recreational materials, with the objective of supporting the well-being of employees and their families.
