The High Court Bar Association Allahabad today decided to abstain from judicial work tomorrow, January 22 (Monday), on account of the Ram Mandir Consecration Ceremony in Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh). A meeting of the executive committee of the Association convened today at 3:30 pm and made this decision, with High Court Bar Association President Ashok Kumar Singh presiding over the meeting.The executive body of the High Court Bar Association Allahabad decides to abstain from judicial work on January 22 (Monday) on account of the Ram Mandir Consecration Ceremony.#RamMandirPranPratishta #RamMandir #PranPratishthaRamMandir pic.twitter.com/jPd6ZJBV7l— Live Law (@LiveLawIndia) January 21, 2024 A press note released by the Association in this regard states that on the occasion of the consecration ceremony in Ayodhya, there will be an “atmosphere of joy and happiness” in the entire country including Prayagraj district, where events will be organised and the traffic in the district will also change due to which many advocates will be unable to reach the court on time. “A large number of advocates have left for Ayodhya to participate in the Pran Pratistha program. Also, keeping in view the security reasons and the suggestions and requests of respected advocates, the executive unanimously decided to abstain from judicial work tomorrow, 22.01.2024 (Monday),” the press release further states. In related news, the Bombay High Court earlier today dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by four law students opposing the Maharashtra government's notification that designates January 22, 2024, as a public holiday to mark the consecration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The Madras High Court also held a special hearing today and disposed of a plea challenging the half-day closure of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research, Puducherry tomorrow on account of the consecration, on an assurance by the Centre that the hospital would remain sufficiently staffed and accept emergency cases even during the half-day closure. The Supreme Court Bar Association President, Senior Advocate Dr.Adish C Aggarwala, has also written to the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, requesting that no adverse order be passed due to the non-appearance of lawyers on January 22. On January 07, even the Bar Council of India Chairperson Manan Kumar Mishra wrote to the CJI requesting him to grant a holiday to all courts across the country on the occasion of the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, acknowledging its “cultural and national significance.”
