The Calcutta High Court has extended the order regarding suspension of regular functioning of the High Court as well as its Circuit Benches and all the Courts subordinate to it, until June 8, 2020.
During this period, the courts will continue to hear urgent cases via video conferencing only.
However, the administrative order issued to this effect is indicative that the Courts in Calcutta will soon resume physical hearings.
The Registrar General of the High Court has informed all the Officers and Staff that they will be required to remain present for the official duty as may be entrusted upon them, and therefore they have been directed to keep themselves prepared to join office "forthwith", as and when they will be asked to do so.
For administrative convenience, it is stated, the services of the officers and staff may be utilized even beyond their present place of posting.
Further, it is intimated that until public transport faculties are regularized, the High Court will provide transport services to and fro the court, from certain points.
"In the event of non-availability of transport for to and fro journey in respect of official duties, till the public transport system is regularised, High Court Authority will provide transport service from certain points that will cater the commutation facility pertaining to such employees," the order states.
