Senior Advocate Anil Singh has been appointed as the Additional Solicitor General (ASG) for representing the Union Government in the State of Maharashtra. This is his fourth term as he has served nine years before as an ASG from 2014 till July 2023.

The post of ASG was vacant for two months after former ASG for Maharashtra & Gujarat, resigned from his post on January 22, 2025.

From his initial appointment in 2014, Singh received extensions till July 2023 and after that senior counsel and then ASG for Gujarat - Devang Vyas was given the charge of the ASG for Maharashtra too. However, Vyas resigned from the post of ASG of both the States in January this year.

Singh has been practicing in Bombay High Court since the last 40 years and was designated as a Senior Advocate in 2012. He has been elected to various prominent positions in the Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa from 2010 to 2011.

After his last stint as the ASG in July 2023, Singh returned to private practice and majorly represented the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in the High Court.

Given his long standing at the Bar and also as the ASG, Singh has represented the Union government in various high profile cases and matters pertaining to the constitutional validity of several enactments.
