He then studied law in London under the aegis of the UK Bar and qualified as a barrister in 1980. He enrolled at the bar on 12th February 1981. Mr. Mahesh Jethmalani's 40-year long illustrious career at the bar includes several high profile criminal and civil cases, including but not limited to:The trial and appeals of Ex. Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. A.R. AntulayThe appeals in High Court and Supreme Court of 2 accused in Mrs. Indira Gandhi's assassination case.Conducted the defence of Yadvender Singh in the General Vaidya assassination case before the Special Judge under TADA, seated in a court situated within the precincts of the Yerwada Jail, Pune in which the accused was acquitted.Appeared for Sanjay Dutt and certain other bomb blast accused in bail application before the TADA Judge in High Court and appeal in Supreme Court.Conducted the Harshad Mehta trial in the UCO Bank case before the Special Judge – Hon'ble Justice Shri S.N. Variava in the Bombay High Court.Conducted the defence of Harshad Mehta and others in 'the Maruti Udyog Case before the Special Judge – Hon'ble Justice Shri M.S.
