On Friday, the Supreme Court dismissed as withdrawn BJP leader Subramanian Swamy's petition seeking to quash an alliance between Jet Airways and the Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways.

Swamy, before a Bench of Justices MR Shah and CT Ravikumar said,
"I wish to withdraw this matter, the Jet-Etihad matter. Now there is no Jet, no Etihad now".
"We do not know who is responsible for that", the Bench replied in a lighter note.
The Bench then recorded, "The petitioner seeks permission to withdraw the plea in view of subsequent developments. The petition stands dismissed as withdrawn".
The Bench also allowed him to file a fresh application, if there any new cause of action arises in the future.
On April 24, 2013, Jet Airways had decided to sell 24 per cent equity to Etihad Airways for about Rs 2,058 crore as part of a strategic alliance that would lead to a major expansion in their global network.
Reportedly, Swamy in his PIL filed in 2013 sought to set aside and revoke any action or decision or grant of any further approvals/permissions/permits, etc. by the Government authorities in furtherance of the April 24 decision.
The Court had issued notice to the Centre, Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of External Affairs, Foreign Investment Promotion Board, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Jet Airways and Etihad Airways among others, on December 6, 2013.

Jet Airways ceased operations in April 2019.
