Days after the Tripura High Court asked the State Government to ensure that that the health of inmates is not jeopardized on account of being kept confined, the Government has filed an affidavit stating that it has undertaken extensive testing of children in the Care Centers and jail inmates in the prisons.

Advocate General apprised the Division Bench of Chief Justice Akil Kureshi and Justice S. Talapatra with the steps taken by the State administration for addressing the issue of spread of corona virus in orphanages, children care homes and jails in the State.

On the issue of Oxygen supply, the AG submitted that at present it has a total supply of 14 MT Oxygen which should be sufficient to meet with the future requirement even if the number of active corona positive cases goes up considerably as compared to the current numbers.

He also submitted that the State has storing capacity of 40 MT of oxygen at present and that should provide a sufficient buffer in case for unavoidable circumstances the supply chain gets temporarily disrupted.

The Bench has taken these submissions on record and has posted the matter for hearing on May 31.

The Bench also took into account several measures suggested by Advocate Bhaskar Debbarma to support the State administration in swift shifting of Covid patients from home to the care centre or hospital and vice versa.

    It observed,

"We are sure, the State administration represented through the Sr. GA and the learned Advocate General would keep in mind these suggestions which form part of the petition of which copies are already supplied to them."
