The Uttar Pradesh Police has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against unknown persons after a woman civil judge posted in Banda district filed a complaint stating that she had received a death threat via letter.

The FIR, lodged under Sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 467 (forgery of valuable security) of the Indian Penal Code, alleges that the woman judge received a threatening letter on March 28.

The judge concerned has also specified three individuals who might be responsible for sending the alleged letter to her. She has added that if the post office CCTV footage is examined, then it will become clear as to who sent the said letter and the conspiracy will be exposed.

Last year in December, the same judge had alleged sexual harassment by her senior in an open letter to CJI DY Chandrachud wherein she had sought permission to end her life stating that she had no hope of getting a fair inquiry.

Later on, the Supreme Court refused to entertain a writ petition filed by the judge in question while noting that the Internal Complaints Committee of the Allahabad High Court was already seized of the matter.

In the writ petition, the petitioner sought directions for a fair enquiry on her complaint and the transfer of the accused-District Judge, since the witnesses are his immediate subordinates.
