The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the AIIMS to constitute a board for Ex-Congress leader Sajjan Kumar's medical examination, requiring the report to be submitted in 4 weeks.

The bench headed by Justice S. A. Bobde was hearing Kumar's (who is sentenced to imprisonment for life for his involvement in the 1984 Sikh riots) plea for bail.

Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave argued that the bail had been denied earlier and that, by agreement, the matter had been scheduled for hearing in next year's summer vacations.

However, Senior Counsel Vikas Singh cited Kumar's medical condition as a concern.

"What is the ailment?", asked Justice Bobde.

"He has lost 8,9 kilos, 10 kilos of weight...", replied Mr. Singh.

"You want him examined? We'll order that. We are taking care of your health. What more do you want? Wherever you are, you should be healthy", observed the judge.

Even as Mr. Dave suggested that Kumar be examined by a board to be set up by the AIIMS , Mr. Singh delved into the contention that "the witness changed her version in the trial court in 2002. Then later in the High Court, it was said that it was lost in translation".

"The prosecution for 30 years sided with these culprits! It is a sad commentary on the nation!", shot back Mr. Dave.
