Arvind Kejriwal's Petition Listed On May 6 Despite Direction For Earlier Posting : Singhvi Tells Supreme Court

Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Friday (April 26) told the Supreme Court that Arvind Kejriwal's petition challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is shown to be listed on May 6 though the Court had directed it to be listed in the week commencing from April 29.Singhvi mentioned the petition before the Bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Dipankar Datta, and Prasanna Bhalachandra Varale. Right after the Bench orally pronounced the verdict in the EVM-VVPAT matter, Singhvi mentioned the aforesaid petition. He submitted: “Your lordship directed the Arvind Kejriwal matter to be listed (in week commencing 29), I suddenly find it....they have filed a reply…” To this, Justice Khanna replied: “Move an e-mail.” Thereafter, Singhvi informed the bench of the date showing as per the Supreme Court's website and underscored the urgency of the matter. He said: “The case list is showing …(on 6th now)…there is urgency.” Replying to this, Justice Khanna said: Okay, you move an email, we will take it up. It may be recalled that on April 15, the bench led by Justice Khanna had issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on the Arvind Kejriwal's petition against his arrest by the ED in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. Seeking the ED's response, the Court posted the matter in the week commencing on April 29, 2024. Singhvi's request for an earlier posting before the commencement of Lok Sabha elections on April 19 was turned down by the bench.Two days back, the ED filed its reply to Kejriwal's petition, opposing his plea. On April 09, the Delhi High Court Bench upheld Kejriwal's arrest for his alleged involvement in the aforementioned controversy.
