The Central Government today issued a notification to give effect to the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 from today (April 8, 2025).
As per the notification issued by the Ministry of Minority Affairs under Section 1(2) of the Act, April 8, 2025, has been appointed as the date on which the provisions of the Act will take effect.
In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 1 of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 (14 of 2025), the Central Government hereby appoints the 8th day of April, 2025 as the date on which the provisions of the said Act shall come into force.
The Act passed by the Parliament on April 4 received the President's assent on April 5.
Several petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the constitutionality of the Act.
