The Supreme Court on Thursday observed that it is impossible to have a uniform scheme for assessment for all state boards in the country.A vacation bench comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari observed that each board is autonomous and different and hence the court cannot direct adoption of a uniform scheme."We are not going to direct uniform schemes. Each board will have to evolve their schemes. They are best persons to know and they have experts to advise them correctly", Justice Khanwilkar observed.""We are not going to direct uniform scheme. Each board is different and autonomous. We cannot direct uniform scheme across India", the judge added.The bench was hearing the PIL filed by Advocate Anubha Shrivastava Sahai seeking cancellation of Class 12 exams of state boards. While most of the state boards have cancelled the exams citing the COVID pandemic situation, the petitioner sought for an alternate prayer that there should be a uniform scheme for evaluation of students.The bench told the petitioner's counsel to "not waste time" on his argument for uniform scheme. The bench also said that the reasonableness of the different schemes notified by the state boards could be analyzed independently, if need arises.The bench is hearing other aspects related to state board exams.
