Delhi Police has arrested two Lucknow University law students in connection with the disruption of proceedings before the Supreme Court last week, during which one of them hurled abuses at the Chief Justice of India, flung case papers inside the courtroom and created a commotion.

The accused have been identified as 24-year-old Prabal Pratap Singh, a third-year law student, and 23-year-old Chander Bhan, a second-year law student at Lucknow University.

According to a statement issued by Delhi Police, an FIR was registered at Tilak Marg Police Station based on a complaint by the Supreme Court security staff regarding the incident that occurred on July 10 before a Bench of Justices KV Viswanathan and Alok Aradhe.

Prabal Pratap Singh, who was appearing as a petitioner-in-person, disrupted the proceedings by using abusive language against the judges and throwing his case files inside the courtroom. Police also accused him of obstructing Supreme Court security personnel in the discharge of their duties when they attempted to restrain him.

The incident took place during the hearing of Singh's petition challenging an April 2026 judgment of the Allahabad High Court.

At the outset of the hearing, instead of making legal submissions, Singh addressed the Bench in an unusual manner, saying, "Mr judicial servant, I order you to order the registration of an FIR against the Assistant Commissioner of Police of Lucknow."

Reacting to the remark, Justice KV Viswanathan asked, "You are ordering me? You are ordering us?"

Singh responded, "That is all from my side. Everything is on record." Immediately, he threw papers into the air and hurled abuses at the Chief Justice of India. He was soon escorted out of the courtroom by security personnel.

Despite the outburst, the Bench had observed in its order dated July 10 that it did not wish to initiate any action against Singh, considering the condition of the petitioner.

The video of the incident meanwhile became viral on social media.
