After candidates flagged discrepancies in Part-I marks of the Law Clerk-cum-Research Associate examination, the Supreme Court said on Tuesday that the evaluating agency has admitted an error in evaluation of the Part-I paper and has sought 72 hours to rectify it.
The notice issued by the Recruitment Cell states, “The Agency entrusted with the conduct of the Law Clerks' Examination has admitted its mistake in evaluation of Part-I paper. Hence, the Agency has sought for 72 hours to rectify the mistakes.”
Under the 2026 Law Clerk recruitment process, the Supreme Court is engaging around 90 Law Clerk-cum-Research Associates on a contractual basis for the 2026–2027 term. The written examination for the recruitment was held on March 07, 2026 as part of a multi-stage selection process that includes objective and subjective papers followed by an interview.
The Part-I paper, which consists of objective questions testing legal knowledge and comprehension, forms the first stage of screening candidates in the recruitment process. The results of this stage are used to shortlist candidates for subsequent rounds.
The notice does not specify the nature of the error in the Part-I evaluation. However, after the result was declared on April 20, 2026, many candidates posted on social media pointing to discrepancies in their Part-I marks after the scorecards were made available.
Candidates have claimed stated that their calculated scores based on the answer key were significantly higher than the marks reflected in the scorecard.
The examination portal and candidate interface were hosted on the DigiAlm platform, which is operated by Tata Consultancy Services through its TCS iON examination system. The Court's notice, however, does not name the agency entrusted with conducting the examination.
