Kerala High Court has granted the State 2 days' time to file objection in the sentence suspension plea filed by ex-DGP Tomin J. Thachankary, who was recently convicted in a disproportionate assets case.

Kerala High Court has granted time to Pala MLA Mani C. Kappen to file a counter-affidavit in a plea seeking his disqualification.

Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas granted time till September 25 to Kappan to file the counter and posted the case to Sep 28 for further consideration.

#SupremeCourt dismisses writ petition filed by a society seeking reallocation of 70 TMC of Cauvery river water to the share of the State of Karnataka from the share of the State of Tamil Nadu.

Court: if we start entertaining the society regarding disputes between two states then there will be no end. The states are already contesting, the matters are pending. Dismissed.

Adv Prashant Bhushan flags concerns before #SupremeCourt about the Judge dealing with case of Ashish Mishra, son of former Union Minister Ajay Mishra (accused in the #LakhimpurKheriViolence case)

The case pertains to the killing of 5 persons in October 2021 after vehicles allegedly linked to Mishra's convoy ran over protesting farmers during the agitation against the farm laws

Adv Prashant Bhushan (for complainant): Some disturbing events have taken place. Judge who is currently dealing with it...what he has done is quite shocking. He has withdrawn NDPS, SC/ST cases to himself and granted bail...acquitted people in matters which were at fag end of trial. In this case, he first issues non-bailable warrants to an eye- witness. He has ridden absolutely roughshod over this case! Not just this case. So many cases. Illness slip had been given, with doctor's certificate. Enquiry now initiated against this judge. Police went to this witness, then he said excuse me, I don't want to appear

CJI: On one hand, we say expedite. Then PP says my witness is not available. Sometimes officer has to take steps. Look at pressure on the officer. This is not acceptable to us

Bhushan: He is withdrawing NDPS cases to himself, for which there is a special court

CJI: We are not concerned about NDPS cases. Maybe 1 witness did not come...PP has to explain that witness is unable to come due to valid reason.

Carnatic Musician TM Krishna moves #SupremeCourt challenging the Centre's circular mandating the singing of six stanzas of Vande Mataram and the recent amendment giving Vande Mataram the same status as the National Anthem.

Krishna states that four stanzas of Vande Mataram expressly invoke devotion to Hindu deities, and mandating the singing of those portions violates the secular character of the nation.

The amendment to cover Vande Mataram under the Prevention of Insults to the National Honour Act is arbitrary and violates personal liberty, and furthers a "majoritarian religious message", Krishna contends.
