Supreme Court hears the Maharashtra local body elections matter
Bench: CJI Surya Kant, J Joymalya Bagchi and J Vipul Pancholi
Last year, the Court passed an interim order to hold the local body elections in the state (where were deferred since 2022)
Later, it was pointed out to the court that reservation in some panchayat samitis, zilla parishads was exceeding the 50% ceiling limit
Ultimately, the court said that the 50% ceiling limit could not be breached and that its order was seemingly misconstrued by the authorities.

Plea Seeking SoP For Time-Bound Probe In Exam Paper Leaks
Supreme Court has expressed its reluctance about entertaining a public interest litigation seeking a “Standard Questionnaire and Special Investigation Procedure” to ensure time-bound investigations in cases involving question paper leaks.
A bench comprising Justice PS Narasimha and Justice Alok Aradhe orally remarked “It's not a matter for us [to consider].”

Kerala Waqf Borad Matter
The Supreme Court on Tuesday (July 21) deleted Kerala High Court's direction that the State Waqf Board shall function under supervision of the government's Joint Secretary/Additional Secretary of government.
The court passed the order in the Board's plea challenging the Kerala High Court's order restraining it from taking major policy decisions over absence of 2 non-Muslim members. The Apex Court meanwhile asked the High Court to expeditiously decide the case.

Delhi High Court to shortly hear appeal filed by activist Sonam Wangchuk’s wife against a single judge order refusing to pass any interim order allowing Wangchuk to be shifted to a private hospital of his choice.
Yesterday, the Court sought all medical records and health bulletins concerning Wangchuk and requested doctors to remain present today.

Karnataka High Court on Monday (July 20) stayed further investigation against a sixth-semester law student who was booked in two separate FIRs over a social media post on the murder of a young woman at the Bantwal bus stand, in which he had alleged that the Congress government would “quietly withdraw” the case against the accused.
Granting interim relief, the single-judge bench of Justice M. Nagaprasanna orally observed that the focus of the authorities should be on investigating the murder rather than the student's post.
