'Media Reports Don't Bother Us' : Justice SK Kaul While Hearing Param Bir Singh's Case

The Supreme Court was hearing the matter of Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh wherein the Counsels argued on the limited issue whether the investigation pertaining to the FIRs filed allegation cheating, extortion etc. should be investigated by the State Police or the CBI.

The matter was listed before the Bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul. While hearing the argument, Senior Advocate, Mr. Darius Khambata appearing for the State of Maharashtra submitted that in order to substantiate its claim that CBI should be entrusted with the investigation of FIR filed against Param Bir, the CBI in its affidavit had cited three broad reasons, one of which was some media report.

Hearing this, Justice Kaul commended that -

"Media reports don't bother us. Yesterday the political dispensations of Maharashtra deemed it proper to make statements which were in the press today, how they may not get equal hands at the hands of the judiciary. I have read it and gotten over it. This in today's age has become a habit. We have gotten used to handling them and throwing them in the dustbin where they deserve to be thrown."
