'Mediation For Nation' Campaign To Start From July 1 To Settle Pending Cases Across Nation

A 90-day long Pan India mediation campaign titled 'Mediation For the Nation' will begin on July 1, 2025, and continue till September 30, 2025.“MEDIATION 'FOR THE NATION' campaign is being launched across India to settle the pending cases and make people believe that mediation as a mechanism for dispute resolution is peoples' friendly, cost effective and speedy with ability to save relationships, time and money”, a joint press release by NALSA and MCPC stated.The campaign has been conceptualised under the guidance of the Chief Justice of India and Justice Surya Kant, Judge, Supreme Court of India, who is also the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC).“This Special Pan India Mediation campaign begins on 1.7.2025 and it will continue till 30.9.2025. It is being organised with the objectives to settle suitable matters pending in the Courts right from the Taluka Courts to the High Courts of India and taking mediation to every nook and corner of the country as people's friendly mode of dispute resolution”, the press release stated.The campaign will focus on several categories of cases including matrimonial disputes, accident claims, domestic violence cases, cheque bounce matters, commercial disputes, service matters, compoundable criminal cases, consumer disputes, debt recovery matters, partition suits, eviction cases, land acquisition disputes, and other civil cases deemed suitable for mediation.From July 1 to July 31, 2025, courts will identify and list eligible cases under the heading “For Referral to the Special Mediation Drive” in the cause list. Matters that show any potential for settlement will be referred for mediation during this period.The process of identifying suitable cases, informing parties, and referring them to mediators will take place throughout July 2025. Data on the number of cases settled through mediation will be transmitted on designated dates: August 4, 11, 18, 25 and September 1, 8, 15, and 22, 2025. A final compilation of total cases referred and settled will be completed by October 6, 2025, and submitted to the MCPC.The campaign will involve all existing mediators, including those who have recently completed the 40-hour mediation training. Mediation sessions will be held throughout the week as per the convenience of the parties. To increase accessibility, mediation will be conducted in physical, online, or hybrid mode.“The campaign will witness Mediation Settlement efforts on all 7 days of the week as per the convenience of the parties. To ensure the success of this special drive, Mediation may be conducted completely offline in physical mode, completely in online mode or in Hybrid mode. Taluka or District Legal Services Authority shall facilitate online Mediation.”Each High Court's Mediation Monitoring Committee will supervise the campaign in its respective state. Where required, mediators may seek the assistance of counsellors or subject matter experts.In addition, a detailed study by the National Judicial Academy, Bhopal, in association with selected National Law Universities, on various aspects of the campaign, including its overall impact has been proposed.
