NEET-UG 2024 | 2 Candidates Approach Supreme Court Against Re-NEET, Says It's Unfair To Scrap Entire Exam For Mischief By Few

In relation to the NEET-UG 2024 controversy, two students who appeared for the exam have filed an intervention application opposing the reconducting of 2024 examination. Applicants/Interveners Ms Kritika Garg and Ms Priyanjali Garg have argued that students who have prepared for years should not be subjected to the ordeal of rewriting the examination. They said that this would not only be “unfair” to the majority of students but also result in hardship to their families. The application has underscored that the NEET-UG examination is one of the toughest examination and should not be be re-conducted just because certain allegations have been levelled. The applicants, residents of Meerut, stated that they got 705 and 690 marks respectively, solely on their own hardwork and merit. It may be noted that the present application has been filed in the Writ Petition seeking recall of the NEET-UG 2024 results and conduct of a fresh exam. The same has been sought because of the alleged paper-leak and other malpractices. On June 13, a vacation bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, had issued notice in this Writ Petition. The application, however, stated the allegations of malpractice may involve a small number of students in comparison with the number of students who took the examination based on their hard work. “Scrapping the entire process for lacs of students, for the mischief of a few, would be really unfair and torturous to other students who have not indulged in any such activities.” It also noted that since the issue pertaining to the grace mark has already been dealt with by conducting an examination for the 1563 students therefore, that issue is erased. Moreover, the applicants alleged that opposition political parties have turned the matter into a "political issue". The application also stated, without ambiguity, that the coaching centres are aiming to have the exam conducted again to profit from offering additional crash courses or test series to aspiring students. “That it is nobody's allegations that all the students who have secured good marks have obtained them by unscrupulous and unfair means, penalising the students with good marks obtained through sheer hard work and merit will cause a great deal of trauma and stress and the re-exercise ought not to have been allowed.” “That merely because the Cut Off has gone higher in the NEET UG examination, the same cannot be ground to challenge the entire examination.,” the application added. Lastly, the applicants also ensured to highlight the issue of Physics Question paper that had more than one answer. Regarding this, they said that the same can “hardly” be a reason for conductiong of the examination and added: “the said issue has been a common problem in many competitive examinations and the same can be taken care of easily.” Based on this above projection, they have submitted that re-conducting the NEET-UG 2024 would cause a lot of harassment to meritorious students like them, who have secured their marks and scores on their own accord.The application has been filed through AoR Sanchit Garga.
