NEET-UG 2024 | 'Award Of Grace Marks Arbitrary' : Plea In Supreme Court Seeks Recall Of NEET-UG Results & Re-Exam

Alleging widespread discrepancies in the recently declared results of the National Entrance cum Eligibility Test (NEET) for the Under Graduate medical course admissions, a petition has been filed in the Supreme Court to recall the NEET-UG 2024 results & the conduct of a fresh examination.The petitioners have alleged arbitrariness in the grant of grace marks. In this regard, it was contended that high marks of 718 & 719 out of 720 secured by several students were “statistically impossible”.It is alleged that the grant of grace marks by the National Testing Agency, purportedly due to delay during the exam, was a mala fide exercise to give “backdoor entry” to certain students.The petitioners also raised suspicions about the fact that 67 students from one particular centre got full 720 marks. It is also pointed out that there are several complaints about the provisional answer key published by the National Testing Agency on April 29.The petitioners also referred to widespread complaints of question paper leak of the exam held on May 5. Two petitions have already been filed in the Supreme Court seeking the cancellation of the test on the grounds of paper leak. On May 17, the Supreme Court had issued notice on one such petition, however refused to stay the declaration of results.The present petition has been filed by Mr. Abdullah Mohammed Faiz and Dr. Shaik Roshan Mohiddin, natives of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh respectively. The petitioners belong to SIO and claim to be working for the benefit of students.The petitioners also seek a stay of the counselling to be conducted for NEET-UG 2024 admissions till the investigation into the alleged paper leak is completed. Further, the constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate into the alleged malpractices in the conduct of the exam is also sought.Yesterday, the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Union Education Ministry Saturday announced the formation of a four-member committee to review the results of over 1,500 candidates who were awarded “grace marks” to compensate for the “loss of time” suffered while appearing for this year's NEET (Undergraduate) exam.Recently, the Calcutta High Court also sought the response of the National Testing Agency on a plea alleging irregularities in the conduct of the exam.The petition has been filed through AOR Shwetank Sailakwal.
