NEET-UG | Supreme Court Extends Time For High-Level Expert Committee's Report On NEET Exam Reforms

The Supreme Court on Monday (October 21) extended by two weeks the deadline for the submission of a report by the High-Level Committee of Experts constituted by the Union to propose measures to enhance the security for the NEET exam.The Court extended the time till November 4, 2024.The High-Level Committee of 7 expert members was formed by the Union in the wake of paper leak of the NEET-UG 2024 exam. The Committee is chaired by Dr K Radhakrishnan, former Chairman, ISRO. While the Court in its decision had refused to cancel the Exam conducted on May 5, it had expanded the mandate of the Committee. The 5 broad heads prescribed for the Committee's overview are : (i) Examination Security and Administration, (ii) Data Security and Technological Enhancements, (iii) Policy and Stakeholder Engagement, (iv) Collaboration and International Cooperation, and (v) Support and Training.The Court had directed the Committee to submit its report to the Centre by September 30. The Ministry of Education was directed to take a decision on the recommendations made by the committee within a period of one month from receiving the report.Today, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted before the bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra that while the report is ready and was to be submitted today, the committee has requested some more time to submit the same. Considering the same, the Court allowed the extension by 2 more weeks."Learned Solicitor General submits that the High Level Committee's Report is ready and will be filed within 2 weeks.Time is extended for that purpose till 4 November 2024" Notably, the Committee chaired by Dr K Radhakrishnan also comprises: (i) Dr Randeep Guleria (Member) (ii) Prof B J Rao (Member) (iii) Prof Ramamurthy K (Member) (iv) Shri Pankaj Bansal (Member) (v) Prof Aditya Mittal (Member) and (vi) Shri Govind Jaiswal (Member Secretary).
