The Supreme Court today announced the launch of a new public information service in Hindi to provide citizens with simple summaries of important judgments and orders of the Court.

The announcement was made on the occasion of Hindi Diwas.

Under the new service, selected important judgments and orders of the Supreme Court will be accompanied by simple Hindi summaries. A daily Hindi audio and video bulletin of around 15 to 30 minutes will also be made available. The link to the relevant official judgment will be provided along with the summary.

The Supreme Court said that the service will be launched soon after the necessary arrangements are completed.

The initiative is aimed at facilitating access to information for ordinary citizens, litigants and, in particular, persons with disabilities. It will enable them to understand important decisions of the Court, their impact and the further process in a familiar language.

The Court said the objective is to make access to justice more accessible and to connect the respect for Indian languages with judicial public information.

The use of simple language as well as audio and video formats will also benefit people who face difficulty in reading or understanding lengthy legal documents.

The service will initially be available in Hindi. The Supreme Court said it will be made available in other Indian languages in a phased manner.

The Court said this would enable citizens from different linguistic regions of the country to receive brief and accessible information about important Supreme Court decisions in their own language.
