[Rhea Bail Hearing-LIVE UPDATES] Bombay HC Hearing On Bail Application Of Rhea Chakraborty And Others In NDPS Case

Bombay HC reserves orders on the bail applications filed by #RheaChakraborty, her brother Showik Chakraborty, Sushant Singh's servants Samuel Miranda & Dileep Sawant and alleged drug peddler Abdel Basit Parihar.

Justice S V Kotwal held hearing from 11 AM till 6.45 PM.

Justice Kotwal : I will try to do it as early as possible. But as you all know the case is voluminous and many things have to be discussed.

Justice Kotwal : I am closing the arguments and taking the case for orders. All of you have argued very well. 

Saeed : The cases cited by the ASG relate to commercial quantity.

19 people have been arrested in this case and not even 100 grams of ganja have been recovered. And you want to send a message to the society?

The Court allows brief rejoinder by the applicants.

Saeed cites a precedent to state a sentence cannot be picked out from a judgment, divorced from the context, and says 'Baldev Singh' decision's observation on NDPS offences being non-bailable was a passing observation.

ASG (for NCB) : We will go to the root of the matter and put an end to the drug abuse.

ASG completes his arguments.

ASG (for NCB) : If I as a celebrity, who is a role model for college students, consume drugs, what will be the future of the country?

ASG (for NCB) : Sometimes we may feel why youngsters should be punished, and may feel sympathy for them. But there should be a lesson.

ASG (for NCB) : We, as citizens of the country, have to protect our young generation. Youngsters must be encouraged to maintain good health so that they can help their families.

ASG (for NCB) : Some people, who are supposed to be role models, feel that there is nothing wrong in drug use.
