The Supreme Court was informed today by the Manipur government that the blockade on national highway 2 has been removed, while steps are underway for removing the blockades on other highways.

A bench of CJI Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana was dealing with a PIL filed by the Kuki Women Organization for Human Rights seeking removal of blockade on NH2 and restoration of supply of essential services in the affected Manipur district.

At the outset, Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati informed that the highway(s) had been opened.

Senior Advocate Anand Grover, for petitioner, placed before the Court an order dated 28.08.2026 issued by the Manipur government for removal of blockades/obstructions from national and state highways in Manipur. He said that the petitioner's only concern was that the government order should be implemented in letter and spirit.

When the respondent side raised a contention, Justice Bagchi remarked, "[it's] Basically a law and order problem. Please bring the issues to the notice of the local administration. Any sort of subscriptions being collected from outstation truckers, vehicles etc. must be stopped."

The order was passed by the court, recording, "He [Mr Grover] submits and rightly so that the authorities should continue with the endeavor to implement that order in letter and spirit. Ld. ASG representing Manipur has filed a status report according to which the blockade on NH2 has been removed and [it has been restored] for supply of essential commodities. [It is stated] that all other national and state highways are also removing the blockade. In light of the developments, Mr Grover submits that the petition has been rendered infructuous. Disposed of accordingly."
