The Supreme Court of India on Monday issued a corrigendum with respect to the composition of the benches that will hear cases during the summer vacation commencing from Monday, May 22 to Sunday, July 2. The only changes are with respect to the inter se ordering of the benches in two particular slots (May 22 - May 28, and June 26 - July 2), depending on the seniority of the presiding judges.

The updated list of vacation benches that will sit during the summer break is given below.

Last week, it was announced in a notification that Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, in the exercise of his powers under the Supreme Court Rules, 2013, had directed that the top court will close for vacation later this month and reopen again in the first week of July. Notably, the annual summer break this year is one week shorter than the seven-week-long break of 2022.

The notification published on the Supreme Court's website reads:

"In pursuance of Rule 4 of Order II of the Supreme Court Rules, 2013, Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India has directed that the Supreme Court will be closed for the annual Summer Vacation from Monday, the 22nd May, 2023 to Sunday, the 2nd July, 2023 (both days inclusive) and will reopen on Monday, the 3rd July, 2023."

It is important to note that during the summer vacation, the top court's registry will remain open every day - except Saturdays and Sundays - from 10 in the morning to 5 in the evening for all its officers and staff. However, for the non-clerical 'Group C' members, the working hours are from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM every day, except Saturdays and Sundays. The only Saturday on which the registry will remain open is July 1, i.e., the last Saturday before the Supreme Court reopens. The registry will remain closed on designated holidays.
