Journalist Abhishek Upadhyay has alleged in the Supreme Court that a Uttar Pradesh Police team entered the residence of former Delhi Mayor Farhad Suri in Nizamuddin East during the intervening night of August 22–23 while purportedly searching for him.

In an additional affidavit filed on September 3 in his pending writ petition, Upadhyay relied on a publicly available report about the alleged incident. As per the report, Suri had approached the police seeking registration of FIR against the police personnel. He clarified that he was not personally present at Suri's residence and has sought official records to establish what the police team was doing there.

Upadhyay has asked the court to call for records including the authorisation for the Delhi visit, movement details of the police personnel and vehicles, communications with Delhi Police, and CCTV/body-camera and other electronic records.

He highlights that the same police officer who had led the team which reached Suri's residence is involved in the police action against him.

Upadhyay had filed the writ petition challenging the FIR registered by the Ghaziabad police over an alleged road-rage incident. He has contended that the FIR has been concocted with the mala fide intention of harassing him over his reportage exposing the Ram temple donation scam and other corruption cases related to government departments.

The Supreme Court had last month granted him protection from coercive action in a Ghaziabad road-rage FIR, while asking the police to provide him a copy of the FIR.

Upadhyay subsequently filed an application after the Ghaziabad Crime Branch sought extensive digital information about his X account from the platform, including IP and device-related data dating back to June 1-weeks before the alleged August 18 road-rage incident. He argued that such data could expose his journalistic sources, particularly those who provided information for his Ram Temple donation investigation.

In the latest affidavit, Upadhyay has argued that the alleged Delhi operation, viewed alongside the other police actions against him, warrants judicial scrutiny into whether investigative powers have been used selectively or disproportionately.
