Dr. Vikram Patel (noted Psychiatrist and Researcher) will speak on the issue of "Depression And Other Psychological Issues Among Lawyers"The session would be moderated by Senior Advocate Prashanto Sen, Advocate Ranvir Singh, and Advocate Pallav Mongia.About Dr. PatelDr Vikram Patel is the Pershing Square Professor of Global Health in the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is an honorary professor at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (where he co-founded the Centre for Global Mental Health in 2008). He is a fellow of the UK's Academy of Medical Sciences and has served on several WHO experts and the Government of India committees. His work on the burden of mental disorders, their association with poverty and social disadvantage, and the use of community resources for the delivery of interventions for their prevention and treatment. He also works in the areas of child development and adolescent health. He was listed in TIME Magazine's 100 most influential persons of the year in 2015. He has won numerous awards and citations for his contribution to mental health and related area. He was recently awarded John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award in recognition of his outstanding achievements in Global Health Research.The recent suicide of a young lawyer was extremely disturbing. We felt it imperative to share some insights on how to deal with the psychological issues and depression among lawyers because of uncertainties arising on account of COVID lockdown. As fellow lawyers that's the least we can do for each other. Hence we reached out to various mental health experts and have been able to get Dr Vikram Patel to speak on the issue in an interactive session. We also request that those who can please reach out to other lawyers who may be having any psychological issue in view of the lockdown and inform us of the kind of problems being faced. This would help us frame questions and structure the talk with Dr. Patel.
