Justice Achal Kumar Paliwal on Friday (December 19) bid farewell to the Madhya Pradesh High Court, bringing a close to a distinguished judicial career spanning 35 years.
Born on December 26, 1963, Justice Paliwal joined the MP Judicial Service in 1990. Over the years, he steadily rose through the hierarchy, serving as Civil Jude, Senior Civil Judge and Chief Judicial Magistrate, and later officiating as District Judge in Judicial Service.
He was granted Selection Grade in 2012 and Super Time Scale in 2018, reflecting his exemplary service record. Before his elevation to the High Court, he served as Principal District and Sessions Judge and was administered the oath as a judge of the MP High Court on May 1, 2023.
During his farewell address, Justice Paliwal reflected on his journey, describing his entry into the legal profession as entirely accidental and never part of a grand design. He remarked that destiny guided him towards law, a path that ultimately became one of the most beautiful experiences of his life.
He shared that even while studying law, he never dreamed of becoming a judicial officer. Like many young aspirants, he was preparing for the Civil Services and appeared in multiple competitive examinations. To his own surprise, he was selected for judicial service in his very first attempt. Encouraged by his parents and teachers, he joined the service in 1990.
He candidly acknowledged that reaching the position of Principal District Judge, let alone becoming a Judge of the High Court, was far beyond his imagination when he began his career.
Recalling the turning points of his journey, he delivered an inspiring message to the younger generation, stating that while destiny may open doors, it is hard work, honesty, consistency and determination that ultimately forge the path to success. He emphasized that true success flows not merely from intelligence, but from integrity and the conscious effort to be a good human being.
He stated, "I want to convey to all the younger generations is to work hard and move in the direction where their destiny is taking them. Destiny opens the doors or gives you an opportunity, but it is only hard work, continuous effort and determination that you achieve your goals. It is not only how intelligent you are, but how honest, consistent, determined and hardworking you are that determines your success. I truly believe that one should first be a good human being and only then can one flourish in whatever they pursue".
Expressing his heartfelt gratitude, Justice Paliwal thanked the judicial fraternity and particularly acknowledged Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva for his guidance, support and for fostering a congenial and collaborative working environment within the High Court. He also expressed appreciation for senior judges and his brother and sister judges with whom he shared the bench.
Highlighting the vital role of the legal community, Justice Paliwal concluded his speech acknowledging the inseparable relationship between the Bench and the Bar.
