MP High Court Halts Declaration Of NEET-UG Result Over Plea Claiming Power Outage During Exam At Indore Centre

While hearing a plea filed by a medical aspirant claiming power outage at an examination centre in Indore during the 2025 NEET-UG exam, the Madhya Pradesh High Court temporarily stayed the declaration of results after no one appeared on behalf Centre. Justice Subodh Abhyankar in his order observed, “Considering the fact that the respondent(s) have failed to provide proper conditions to the petitioner, who was appearing in NEET-UG examination, which was held on 04.05.2025, and was prevented due to power failure in the various parts of the city, it is directed that till the next date of hearing, the result of NEET-UG shall not be declared by the respondents.”A petition was filed by a medical aspirant who recently sat for the 2025 NEET UG examination. The plea alleges malafide and arbitrary action of the respondent no. 1/National Testing Agency & 4/Ilva Higher Secondary School Indore. The plea states that the NTA had organized the examination at centre under control of school that experienced power outages due to mismanagement and lack of power backups for around 1 to 2 hours and students at these centres including the present petitioner had to take the exam by candlelight/using emergency lamps.The plea alleges that the aforesaid conditions have caused significant disruption and distress to the petitioner and made petitioner suffered loss of time as well as mental anguish.The plea further states that an advisory was issued by the meteorological department in advance regarding a probable thunderstorm on the date of the examination i.e. May 4. However, NTA and the school did not make any alternate arrangements and conducted the exams without arrangement of power backup/generator due to which the petitioner could not perform in examination properly. Owing to the aforesaid circumstances, the students including the petition could not solve the problems/exam due to extreme stress and no extra time.Thus, through the petition, the petitioner prays that a direction be issued to NTA to consider and re-conduct the examination for the petitioner or provide alternative solution to ensure fair assessment for the petitioner.On May 15, no one appeared on behalf of Union of India despite being directed by the Court on May 13 to seek instructions in the matter.Thereafter, the Court issued notice to the respondents and has put a stay on declaration of NEET-UG results as an interim relief to the petitioner.Case Title: Laxmi Devi Vs National Testing Agency And Others, Writ Petition No. 17344 Of 2025Counsel for Petitioner: Advocate Mradul BhatnagarClick Here To Read/Download Order
