Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU) Mumbai will host a Fireside Chat titled “Artificial Intelligence & the Future of Banking: Opportunities, Risks & Regulatory Frontiers” with Citi's Technology, Operations & Privacy Legal team on October 23, 2026.
The session is being organised by the University's Internship and Placement Cell in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). It will explore how artificial intelligence is reshaping financial services and its implications for the legal profession.
AI is changing the functioning of banks and financial institutions, including credit assessment, fraud detection, risk management, compliance, customer service and cybersecurity. These developments raise legal questions concerning data protection, accountability, technology contracting, intellectual property and regulation.
The Fireside Chat aims to bring senior in-house counsel from Citi into conversation with students on these developments. The speakers will discuss how legal teams in a global bank address issues relating to AI governance, privacy, cybersecurity and procurement, and the implications for students aspiring to in-house legal roles in banking and technology.
The session will be moderated by Dr. Garima Pal, Assistant Professor of Law at MNLU Mumbai.
The discussion will feature three senior members of Citi's Technology, Operations & Privacy Legal team:
Adam Marchuck, Managing Director & General Counsel, Technology, Operations, IP & Privacy, Citi. He leads the legal team advising Citi's technology and operations stakeholders on procurement and sourcing, cybersecurity, intellectual property, privacy and the bank's approach to artificial intelligence.
Nicholas Fernandez, Director and Head, Asia Clusters, International Technology, Operations & Privacy Legal, Citi. He joined Citi in 2007 and leads legal support for the bank's Technology and Operations businesses across Asia Pacific. He has over 25 years of experience in private practice and in-house legal roles.
Maneesh Thakur, Senior Vice President, Technology, Operations & Privacy Legal, Citi. He has nearly two decades of legal experience and advises on technology, procurement, outsourcing and cross-border commercial transactions across the APAC region.
Other members of Citi's legal team will also participate, including Jyoti Tiwarekar, Vineet Bachhawat, Debasrita Saratkar, Saket Prakash, Shraiya Thapliyal, Sakshi Verma and Krashanu Pundir from the Technology, Operations & Privacy Legal team, and Nisha Mistry from the Citi Investor Services Legal team.
The organising committee is headed by Rosanne Lobo and Gnanith K., fifth-year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) students of MNLU Mumbai.
