The Delhi Cabinet on Monday approved two separate proposals for establishing 22 commercial courts and 42 Additional posts in the Delhi Higher Judicial Services.

Kailash Gahlot, Law Minister of the Delhi Government today said:

Delhi Government, under our Hon'ble CM has been consistently focusing on improving 'Ease of Doing Business'. Today's decision is not just another step towards meeting targets, but also one that has been taken after referring to global best practices on fast & efficient redressal of Commercial disputes."

The proposal came after the Cabinet referred to data analysis carried out by the Department of Justice of the Ministry of Law, Government of India as regards to the practice of number of days taken by the States for deciding a commercial dispute and its disposal. According to the said data, while the world's best practice for disposing of a commercial dispute is 164 days, Delhi took around 747 days whereas the same was 182 days in case of Mumbai.

In view of this, Gahlot went ahead to say:

"Delhi courts have been over-burdened recently, and I'm confident with this decision to augment our Commercial Courts- both in manpower and resources, we will be able to dispose of all the pendencies and ensure speedy redressal of future cases."
