Delhi High Court has given a final opportunity to the Delhi University to file its affidavit in a plea moved by students of Law Faculty seeking holding of supplementary examinations.

While issuing the last opportunity, the Single Bench of Justice Prathiba M Singh made it clear that if the University fails to furnish its affidavit before the next date, a fine of Rs 5000 will be imposed.

The order has come in a plea moved by the final year students of the Campus Law Centre, Delhi University, seeking a direction to be issued to the Delhi University to hold supplementary examinations for those students who could not take regular exams for some subjects between first to fourth semesters.

The Petitioners had approached the High Court against the new scheme introduced by the University whereby a final year student, who has not cleared any examination from the first to fourth semesters, may appear for those examinations during the "regular examination" held at the end of each term.

The court also noted in the order that the Delhi University has to file its affidavit within one week, after that no further opportunity will be given.

In the last date of hearing, the court had asked the University to submit an affidavit stating the following:

    1. Was there a system of holding supplementary examinations for odd semesters for final semester students along with the examination for the final semester and if so when was the same discontinued?
    2. Whether DU requires any approval from the Bar Council of India for holding the Supplementary examinations and if so, whether it has received the same for the new system?

The Petitioners in this case are being represented by Advocate Amit Kumar Sharma.
