The Delhi High Court has issued notice in a plea moved by certain pilots of national carrier Air India challenging the termination of their services with effect from August 13.

The Single Bench of Justice Jyoti Singh has issued notice to Air India, directing it to file its response within two weeks.

Moved by four pilots of Air India, the petition challenges the decision of the national carrier to terminate the services of pilots who had earlier tendered their resignation letters but later withdrew the same within the notice period of six months.

Despite the withdrawal of the resignation letters, these pilots were terminated from their services with effect from August 13.

Earlier, Air India had terminated the services of 40 other similarly situated pilots. The petition filed by other pilots are also pending before the Delhi High Court.

It is the contention of the Petitioners that they had earlier tendered their resignation letters on the account of continuous delay caused by Air India in disbursing their salaries and allowances.

However, they argued, neither was their notice period of six months reduced nor were they granted any no objection certificate by Air India.

Despite withdrawing their resignation within the notice period, they submitted, Air India refused to accept their withdrawal and rather chose to terminate their services.

The court will next take up this matter on September 17.
