Delhi High Court denied relief to a girl who missed out on admission to Delhi University by the fact of being deceived by an internet cafe owner.

In Sandali Sharma v. Delhi University, the Petitioner moved the court seeking directions to be issued to the Delhi University to grant her admission in B.Sc. programme at Deshbandhu College.

She said that at the time of filling up the online application form, she was deceived by the owner of the internet cafe who informed her that her application form and the fee for the same have been submitted despite the happening of the contrary. Due to the lack of computer literacy, she relied upon the statement made by the cafe owner, but, when the admission list came out, she did not find her name on there despite meeting the cut-off.

The University, in its counter affidavit, submitted that, the Petitioner neither had filed an application nor had deposited the requisite fee. Therefore, she had not complied with the conditions whereunder admissions are granted.

The court accepted the claim of the University and refused to grant any relief to the Petitioner. However, it did highlight that it's unfortunate that the Petitioner was misled by a complete stranger.
