    The Jammu and Kashmir State Legal Services Authority on Saturday organized its first "E-Lok Adalat" in the districts of J&K and Ladakh, to achieve the goal of Access to Justice for all and to help the poor litigants tide over their financial problems and untold mental stress.

    The Lok Adalat was conducted via video conferencing under the guidance of High Court Chief Justice Gita Mittal who is also the Patron-in-Chief of the SLSA and under instructions of Justice Rajesh Bindal, Judge, Executive Chairman of the SLSA.

    As per a press note issued by the authority, 5757 cases taken up by 110 Benches in the day long E-Lok Adalat at various courts across the UT's of J&K & Ladakh, 4273 Cases were disposed of and an amount of Rs. 11,49,45,449 was awarded as compensation/settlement amount in civil, criminal, labour disputes, Electricity and Water Bills cases, Land Acquisition, Family matters, cheque dishonor and Bank Recovery cases.

    Country's first ever e-Lok Adalat was organized by the Chhattisgarh High Court and the State Legal Services Authority last month, where 3135 cases were identified for compromise and over 2000 cases were settled in a single day through virtual mode.

    Recently, the Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority also organized the state's first online Lok Adalat. As many as 47,654 cases were taken up out of which 33,476 cases were settled. Out of the settled cases, 29092 cases were pending in the courts and 4384 were settled at prelitigation stage.

    In Karnataka, the first virtual Lok Adalat organized by the High Court Legal Services Committee settled 31 cases pertaining to two Insurance Companies.
