    The newly-elected LDF Government in Kerala led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has decided to appoint Senior Advocate Gopalakrishna Kurup K as the new Advocate General of Kerala. He succeeds Senior Advocate CP Sudhakara Prasad, who tendered his resignation yesterday. The decision to appoint Senior Advocate Kurup was taken in today's cabinet meeting. 

    Senior Advocate CP Sudhakara Prasad served as Kerala's Advocate General during the first term of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's government as well as the previous LDF Government led by Chief Minister VS Achuthananthan.

    The Cabinet has also decided to appoint Senior Advocate TA Shaji as the new Director General of Prosecution. Senior Advocate TA Shaji takes over from Manjeri Sreedharan Nair, the previous Director General of Prosecution.

    Senior Advocate Gopalakrishna Kurup, born in 1953, enrolled as an advocate in 1976. He was conferred senior designation by the High Court of Kerala in 2010. He was elected the President of the Kerala High Court Advocates Association in 2005. He has served as the State Prosecutor from 1998 to 2002. He has also served as the Standing Counsel of the Mahatma Gandhi University (from 1998 to 2002), Thiruvananthapuram Corporation (from 1993 to 2002) and Cochin Devaswom Board (from 2008 to 2010).

    Senior Advocate TA Shaji started his legal practice in 1986 at trial courts and the High Court of Kerala. Senior Advocate Shaji enrolled as an advocate on January 26,1986 and commencing practice as a junior of Advocate MM Mathew, Former Director of Prosecutions. He was conferred with the Senior Designation by the High Court of Kerala in the year 2012. He has over 34 years of practice in the legal profession handling criminal cases at the trial courts and the High Court. He also has considerable experience handling constitutional as well as co-operative societies matters. He has served as the Standing Counsel for institutions like M.G. University, Regional Cancer Center and several local self-government bodies. He has also acted as the Faculty Member for the Training Directorate under the High Court of Kerala and has given several academic discourses in criminal law to judicial officers. He is also a member of the State Council of the All India Lawyers Union.
