In view of extension of the lockdown period, the Calcutta High Court has decided that the order of suspension of regular works of the High Court as well as its Circuit Benches and the Subordinate Courts will continue to operate till May 15.

Meaning thereby, the courts in Calcutta will hear only urgent matters until May 15, 2020.

To this end, the Chief Justice of the High Court has constituted two Division Benches and three Single Benches that will function on May 4, May 7, May 12 and May 15, for taking up extremely urgent matters through video conferencing.

The procedure for E-filing and video conferencing may be accessed here. In partial modification of this procedure however, the High Court has notified that from April 30 onwards, counsels will have to file their urgent matters by 5:00 pm, three days prior to the day of sitting of the concerned Benches.

The decision to observe restrictive functioning was first taken by the High Court on March 15, in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak.
