The Chief Justice of India NV Ramana's action on a letter sent to him by a Class 8 girl has resulted in the restoration of bus services in a village in the State of Telangana.

P Vaishnavi, an eighth standard student in Telangana, wrote a letter to CJI Ramana about the stoppage of the bus services to her village in Rangareddy district in the aftermath of COVID pandemic, as a result of which she and her siblings, Preethi and Praneeth, were facing difficulties in going to school. She therefore requested the CJI to intervene to restore the bus services. She mentioned in the letter that her father had passed away due to cardiac arrest last year during the first wave of COVID and her mother was earning meager income. Hence, to hire auto-rickshaw to go to school was way beyond their means.

Letter sent by Vaishnavi to CJI

Taking note of the letter, the CJI brought the attention of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation to the issue. The CJI told the Corporation that the bus services have to be restored to honour the Right To Education of the children.

VC Sajjanar, the Managing Director of TSRTC, tweeted that following CJI's intervention, the bus services have been restored. He thanked the CJI for alerting the Corporation about the issue.

"TSRTC Management sincerely Thank the Hon'ble apex court Chief Justice of India CJI Ramana Sir for alerting us to restore buses to send students on school timings in token of honoring RTE", Mr. Sajjanar said in the tweet.

This is not the first time that the CJI is responding to a letter received from a school student. In June, a 5th standard school girl from Kerala had written to the Chief Justice of India thanking the Supreme Court for its orders passed to address the COVID situation.

The CJI sent a heart warming reply to the school girl, appreciating her for keeping track of the major developments in the country. CJI's reply read as :

    "My dear Lidwina,

I have received your beautiful letter along with a heart-warming illustration of the Judge at work.

I am really impressed with the way you kept track of happenings in the country and the concern that you have displayed for the well being of people in the wake of pandemic.

I am sure you will grow-up into an alert, informed and responsible citizen who will contribute immensely towards the nation building.

With best wishes and blessings for your all-round success"

Chief Justice Ramana also sent her a signed copy of the Constitution.
