Deployed Adequate Forces To Ensure Protection Of Family Members & Witnesses: UP Govt Files Affidavit In Hathras Case Before SC [Read Affidavit]

In its affidavit before the Supreme Court in Hathras Case, the Uttar Pradesh Government submitted that it has deployed adequate forces to ensure protection of the following members of the victim's family.The CJI SA Bobde led bench had earlier directed the State Government to place on record such details.Special Secretary, Home Department, Uttar Pradesh, in his affidavit stated that he Government of Uttar Pradesh is committed to provide complete security to the victim's family and the witnesses to ensure free and fair investigation. The state also requested the court to to keep the petition pending allowing the investigation by the CBI to be conducted under the supervision of this Hon'ble Court in a time bound manner. It also sought a direction to CBI to submit fortnightly status reports on the investigation to the State Government.In order to ensure the security of victim's family/ witnesses, three fold protection mechanism, the state explains in the affidavit. "Government has also installed 8 CCTVs to ensure 24 hours surveillance/observation of the premises. The entire security staff deployed at the village has been strictly instructed to ensure that there is no intrusion in the privacy of the victim's family /witnesses and that they are free to move and meet the people they want.", it reads. A detailed chart of overall security personnel that have been deployed to ensure the security of Victim's house, family members and witnesses is also there in the affidavit.The Supreme Court is considering a PIL filed by social activist Satyama Dubey, demanding justice for the victim for the brutal attack, rape and murder of the victim". The plea raises the issue that the police authorities have not performed their duties and are shielding the accused. Additionally, the family of the victim is being victimized by upper-caste persons.""We understand. We are not saying that the incident is not shocking or that such things should be allowed to happen, or that someone should be held responsible and there should not be an investigation...we are only on the phenomena in this case before the court...we are not on the case but on the invocation of our jurisdiction", the CJI had remarked during the hearing.Click here to Read/Download AffidavitRead Affidavit
