Justice Pankaj Mithal Appointed As CJ Of Jammu & Kashmir High Court; Justice Ravi V. Malimath Made HP High Court Judge

The Central Government on Thursday (31st December) notified the appointment of Justice Pankaj Mithal, presently a judge of the Allahabad High Court (Lucknow Bench), as the Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court. The Centre also notified the appointment of Justice Ravi R. Malimath, presently judge of Uttarakhand High Court, as the Judge of Himachal Pradesh High Court. It may be noted that Justice Dr. S. Muralidhar, presently a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court has been appointed the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court. Also, Justice Hima Kohli, judge of Delhi High Court has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court. Justice Sanjib Banjeree of Calcutta High Court has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Madras High Court following the retirement of former Chief Justice A P Sahi. Earlier in the day, the Centre notified the transfer of Chief Justice J K Maheshwari of Andhra Pradesh High Court as the Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court and Chief Justice AK Goswami of Sikkim High Court as the CJ of AP High Court. About Justice Pankaj Mithal Justice Mithal graduated in Commerce from Allahabad University in the year 1982 and passed L.L.B. from Meerut College, Meerut affiliated to Ch. Charan Singh University in the year 1985. He enrolled as an advocate in Bar Council of U.P. in the Year 1985. Elevated as Additional Judge on 07/07/2006. Took oath as permanent Judge on Jul 02, 2008. About Justice Ravi V. Malimath Justice Malimath began his practice in law in 1987 at the Karnataka High Court. In February 2008, he was made an Additional Judge in the Karnataka High Court and his post became permanent in February 2010. He was transferred to the Uttarakhand High Court on March 5, 2020. Earlier this year, when the then Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court retired on 27th July, Justice Malimath was appointed as its Acting Chief Justice. The Centre has also notified the transfer of following High Court Judges Justice Satish Chandra Sharma of Madhya Pradesh High Court to Karnataka High Court. Justice Joymalya Bagchi of Calcutta High Court to Andhra Pradesh High Court; The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on 14th December,2020 recommended transfer of nine Judges/ Chief Justices to various High Courts. It has recommended to transfer: Chief Justice of Telangana High Court, Justice RS Chauhan to Uttarakhand High Court; Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court, Justice JK Maheshwari to Sikkim High Court; Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, Justice Mohammad Rafiq to Madhya Pradesh High Court; Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court, Justice AK Goswami to Andhra Pradesh High Court; Justice Sanjay Yadav of Madhya Pradesh High Court to Allahabad High Court; Justice Rajesh Bindal of Jammu & Kashmir High Court to Calcutta High Court; Justice Vineet Kothari of Madras High Court to Gujarat High Court; Justice Joymalya Bagchi of Calcutta High Court to Andhra Pradesh High Court; Justice Satish Chandra Sharma of Madhya Pradesh High Court to Karnataka High Court.
