The Supreme Court on Monday adjourned the petition seeking for an extra opportunity for candidates who had exhausted their last attempt in JEE Advanced in 2020 and had faced difficulties on account of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar heard the matter and proceeded to direct the Counsel for the Petitioner to wait the reserved judgement in the matter pertaining to seeking an extra chance for UPSC candidates who had exhausted all their attempts in October 2020.

In today's hearing, Advocate Mathews J. Nedumpara submitted to the Court that due to COVID, and because only two opportunities were given for JEE, an extra chance was required.

The Court, however, was not inclined to hear the matter and informed Nedumpara that the same principle that would be applied in the UPSC matter, would be applied here. Accordingly, the Court directed Nedumpara to wait for the judgment in the UPSC matter.

On 9th February, after hearing the submissions of Senior Advocates Shyam Divan, Pallav Shishodia, ASG SV Raju and otherse, the Court had reserved the judgement on the petition which seeks an additional chance for those candidates who had exhausted their last attempt in the Civil Service Examination held in October 2020.

The Court had agreed to give an extra chance to such last attempt candidates but with a condition that the concession would be subject to an age-bar. The arguments took place on this point of contention.
