[Hindi Diwas] The Indore Bench Of Madhya Pradesh HC Passes Several Orders In Hindi

A press release issued by the MP Public Relations Department states that Justices SC Sharma, Virender Singh and SK Awasthi of HC's Indore bench heard several cases in Hindi and passed their decisions or other orders in the same language.

Notably, all the Judgments/Orders (available on the Madhya Pradesh High Court's website at the time of the publication of this Article) passed by Single Bench of Justice Virender Singh are in Hindi Language.

The press release by the MP Public Relations Department states that Justice Virender Singh passed orders in Hindi in more than 40 cases in his court on Monday.

It is interesting to note that more than 5 Orders/Judgments passed by Justice Virender Singh in the last 15 days are in Hindi.

Last year, full bench of Patna High Court had held that writ petitions or a Tax Reference can be filed in Hindi but it will have to be accompanied by an authentic English version of the petition.

Significantly, a full bench consisting of Chief Justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi, Justice Ashutosh Kumar and Justice Rajeev Ranjan Prasad was constituted to deliver a Judgment on this matter.

The Judgment was delivered in the case of Krishna Yadav vs The State Of Bihar Through Home Criminal Writ Jurisdiction Case No.435 of 2015.

It may be noted that last year the official web portal of Supreme Court of India had started uploading its judgments in regional languages.

A separate tab titled 'Vernacular Judgments' can be seen in the home page of the Supreme Court Portal. The judgments are translated in six vernacular languages: Assamese, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Odia and Telugu.

Significantly, the Supreme Court has started uploading the translated version of its judgments in more regional languages.

Some judgments delivered by the Court last year and earlier this year are now seen available in Malayalam, Tamil and Punjabi. Mostly the judgments connected to a state is being translated and uploaded in the language of that state.

As we know, Hindi Diwas is celebrated on September 14 every year to commemorate the event when Hindi was adopted as one of the official languages of India.

On 14th September 1949, Hindi became the official language of the nation. In fact, it happened on Beohar Rajendra Simha's 50th birthday, who happened to have illustrated the original final manuscript of the Constitution of India.

Notably, it is said that owing to the efforts of Beohar Rajendra Simha, along with Hazari Prasad Dwivedi, Kaka Kalelkar, Maithili Sharan Gupt and Seth Govind Das, Hindi was recognised as one of the two official languages (source link).

Under Article 343 of the Constitution of India, Hindi in the Devanagari script was adopted as the official language of the Union of India.
