The Indian National Congress President Rahul Gandhi has filed an affidavit before the Apex Court expressing his 'unconditionally apology for the wrongful attributions' he made to the Supreme Court.

In his affidavit filed today, he reiterated that he holds the Court in the highest esteem and respect and has never sought or intended to, directly or indirectly, commit any act that interferes with the process of administration of justice.

"The Deponent unconditionally apologises for the wrongful attributions to this Hon'ble Court. The Deponent further states that any such attributions were entirely unintentional, non-willful and inadvertent.

The Deponent most respectfully prays that this Hon'ble Court may be graciously pleased to accept the instant affidavit and close the present contempt proceedings"

The CJI headed bench will take up this matter on 10th May along with the review petitions filed against the Rafale judgment.

On April 15, the Apex Court had sought Gandhi's explanation on a petition filed by BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi, who has sought criminal contempt against the Congress president for wrongfully attributing statements to the apex court.

In his first affidavit, the Congress President had stated that the remark was made "in a rhetoric flourish in the heat of the moment."

During the last hearing on April 30th, the bench had remarked that it was not able to understand the affidavit and asked why 'regret' was stated in brackets. Then Rahul Gandhi's lawyer Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi undertook to file an affidavit to that effect.
